It all began...
On April 29th 1947 Anthony & Frank Reis started Reis Bros., Inc. based in Columbus, OH, their
hometown. They started out mainly doing excavating and hauling coal and ice. The coal yard was
next to an empty parcel that became American Bitumuls, (a division of Standard Oil of California)
Emulsified Asphalt Plant. It did not take long for Reis Bros., Inc. to begin hauling Emulsified
Asphalts for this facility. Then in 1954 Standard Oil of California built a refinery in North
Bend, Ohio. This presented the opportunity for Reis Bros., Inc. to expand. Tony and his new
bride Regina moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1954 and in 1954 Reis Bros., Inc. became the first
contract carrier for Standard Oil of California, better known today as Chevron.
NOTE: Reis Bros., Inc. was the first and the last contract carrier for Chevron USA.
Paul, born in 1957, the last of three children for Tony and Regina and the only
Son, grew up in the trucking industry. By the age of 10, Tony decided to start
taking Paul to work with him in the summers to do odd jobs around the garage.
He cleaned asphalt off of tanks, cleaned and painted wheels, whatever the
dirtiest job was, Paul was the lucky person to do it. By age 12 Paul was parking
trucks on the lot at 10800 Brower Road in North Bend, OH. As time passed, Paul
was driving and learning to dispatch in the evenings, on the weekends and
during the summers all throughout high school and college. During this time Paul
learned most of the ins and outs of the asphalt trucking business and when he
graduated from Miami University on May 6th 1979 he went to work for Reis Bros.,
Inc.
It was not long after going to work for his dad and his uncle that Paul decided to strike
out on his own. In 1980 Reis Trucking, Inc. was incorporated and in 1983 with the help
of the local bank in Cleves, OH and blessings from his father, Paul purchased the Koch
Asphalt Trucking Terminal at 10080 Valley Junction Road and went into competition against
his father and his uncle. When he purchased the terminal he also was able to retain
many of the former Koch drivers. Most of the drivers had been in the asphalt industry
as long as or longer than Paul. Many of those drivers are still with Reis Trucking, Inc. today!

As time passed and Reis Trucking, Inc. grew, the running of both Reis Trucking, Inc.
and Reis Bros., Inc. (as of 1985 owned by Tony Reis solely) merged to run out of
Paul's Terminal at 10080 Valley Junction Road. Paul took over the dispatching of
both companies and gained Tony's mechanic and bookkeeper.
In 1997, after 50 years in the trucking industry, Tony Reis decided to "retire".
While planning this merger and a need for more office space, an opportunity to
purchase the adjoining property to 10080 Valley Junction Road arose. On the
property was a historic house built in 1866 by Dr. James H. Hunt. The house
presented the perfect answer to the much needed office space for Reis Trucking, Inc.
So in May 1997 the Reis Trucking, Inc. office moved from it's small space off the
garage and into the house next door.
As of 2002 Reis Trucking, Inc. employs 21 full time people. Reis Trucking is operating
15 company trucks full time, with 3 spare trucks for emergencies and approximately 50 tank
trailers. Reis Trucking, Inc. also has approximately 28 to 30 Owner Operators leased on
during the busy asphalt season.
Keeping with the Reis Family Tradition, Paul's son Mark and Daughter Gina help out during
the summer months in the office and we expect Becca, Paul's youngest, will start showing
up to help in a year or two.
